Alan Whiteley

Professional Background

Alan was educated at Cambridge University and the College of Law in Guilford.  He joined Eversheds as a trainee in 1985 and was appointed partner in 1989, later becoming head of its projects and transactions team.  He established M&A in 1999.

Area of Practice

Alan's area of practice is corporate and commercial focussing on corporate transactions and projects.

Alan is recognised as a leading corporate and commercial specialist by Chambers and Legal 500.

Alan has advised on several of the highest profile commercial projects in Wales.  These include the privatisation of the South Wales coal fields to form Celtic Energy Limited and a major joint venture between SWALEC and NTL for the provision of telephony services to South Wales.  He has advised on numerous Stock Exchange listings (IPOs), including those of TBI plc and IQE plc.  Alan has extensive experience of fund raising exercises for both quoted and unquoted companies.

Alan is the lead partner for a number of clients who he has advised on successful management buy-outs (MBOs) and acquisitions including the £120 million MBO of ESM Limited (formerly Newport Wafer Fab).

He has led and managed a number of the highest profile corporate sales and disposals for individual shareholders ranging from the sale of Peter's Savoury Products to Grand Metropolitan plc for £75m in 1989 through to the sale of Buy As You View PLC, National Britannia Group Limited, Halo Foods Limited and Celtic Inns Limited.
